Description

This course presents an introductory overview of typical and atypical development of communication skills (Speech, language, and hearing).  The typical stages of communication skill development will be presented to serve as a framework of examining developmental delays, disorders, differences, and loss that may affect communicative competence.  The impact of communicative competence in preschool, school aged childlren, and adolescents will be highlighted.  Assistive technology and augmented communication including low and high equipment and materials to facilitate communication, curriculum access, and skill development of students with disabilities is a key component throughout the course
