Description

Responsible for building and maintaining positive relations with local, state, and federal elected government officials, franchise authorities, municipalities and the community to cultivate an optimal operating environment for Cox in Southern Orange County and Palos Verdes.

1. Promotes and advances the interests of the company at the federal, state and local levels to shape emerging issues and to enable Cox to operate in its markets without undue legislation, regulation, or taxation restrictions.
2. Advocates with elected officials to shape positive public policy to enhance the business.
3. Develop grass-roots campaigns to advocate Cox¿s position on important issues.
4. Coaches management on tactics for developing and maintaining positive relationships with public entities and appearances before legislators.
5. Remove local, state and federal regulatory barriers through proactive strategy implementation.
6. Continually evaluates results of government relations activities, develops strategies, and adjusts activities to meet changing local conditions.
7. May manage political donation program or PAC program.
8. Negotiates franchise agreements and renewals at the local and state level.
9. Lead video franchise transition efforts from local to state.
10. Develops and implements tactical plans for department including priorities, objectives, and timelines to meet performance goals.
11. Ensure timely filing of all required regulatory papers, including state franchise amendments, annual reports, 30 day notices, and data requests.
12. Collaborate closely with Community Relations, Media Relations, Customer Relations, Marketing, Cox Media, Cox Business, Construction Planning and other departments to ensure alignment of strategies and initiatives for maximum business benefit.
13. Work closely with Cox Residential, Business and Media sales to execute business development opportunities.
14. May be a People Leader or a Functional Manager without direct reports; directly leverages, influences, and has on-going access to reporting/non-reporting resources to achieve results.
15. Manages alignment and consistency in people practices, management activities, and customer service delivery in an effort to achieve goals.
16. Develop policies and procedures for department to standardize practices.
17. Analyzes market trends; coordinates and communicates with others to determine appropriate responses.
18. Establishes and leverages strong partnerships with key corporate and affiliate departments and internal/external customers
19. May participate in hiring decisions, employee development, training and managing performance. Motivates and coaches others to achieve department and company goals.
20. May be responsible for budgeting.
21. Position is located in Orange County, CA and will include collaboration and travel to San Diego County, Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara.

Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 7+ years experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas OR
Advanced degree and generally 5+ years experience in related field. Certification required in some areas

Influence/People Leadership - Manages Service, Production, or Support employees via subordinate supervisors OR a team of exempt professional individual contributors and associated support staff OR May be a manager without direct reports, with primary responsibility for overseeing special groups/projects or processes with dotted-line accountability to the field; Primary contribution is managing other people (rather than applying knowledge) ; Manages supervisors/team leaders and/or team of exempt individual contributors and associated support staff; Ensures performance planning, coaching, and evaluation occurs per policy

Decision-Making Authority - With oversight from higher level managers, achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience

Financial - Contributes to development of an operating plan and budget; Generally responsible for managing or coordinating expenses within a budget or part of a larger budget; May manage or coordinate a project budget or multiple project budgets

Consequence Of Error - Actions at this level can cause or prevent delays, inefficiencies or unnecessary expense that measurably affect operational results of a CCI business or the efficiency and effectiveness of a team &/or projects managed.

Typical Problems Solved - Solutions require analysis and investigation beyond what might have been applied in past experiences; problems are broadly defined and require interpretation

Technical/Admin Work Performed - May spend a significant portion of time as an individual contributor performing assignments that require a higher level of experience or technical expertise than direct reports OR May be an in-depth functional manager OR May manage complex projects or processes
