QUALIFICATIONS An earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education or closely related field is required. Three years of successful experience teaching young children appropriate to the position and teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level are required. The department seeks applicants with a background in and commitment to pre-kindergarten-primary grade teacher education, with expertise in one or more of the following: teaching and learning in pre-kindergarten-primary grades, particularly math and science teaching and learning, assessment of young children, and family-school collaboration. Also desired are the following qualifications: a record of external funding; consistent publications in peer-reviewed journals; expertise in teacher professional development; a successful track record of work with urban school districts; expertise in the use of technology in instruction; experience with NCATE/SPA reporting; and experience with online instruction. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
RESPONSIBILITIES Teach and supervise field-based and online ECED undergraduate and graduate courses Chair and serve on master’s and doctoral committees Maintain a significant ongoing program of focused scholarly research and publication in ECED Provide service and leadership to national professional organizations, the university, college, and department Implement and assess transformational initial and advanced ECED programs Provide professional service to surrounding ECED programs and community partners Seek external funding to support ECED research and service work

SALARY & BEGINNING DATE Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The position is a nine-month tenure-track appointment with excellent opportunities for summer research and/or teaching being optional. The anticipated date of appointment is August 2013. The University offers an excellent benefits package, including healthcare and retirement. The state of TN currently has no state income tax and the Memphis area has a very reasonable cost of living.
