The position will require teaching graduate courses in Higher Education, advising master’s and doctoral students, and supporting our programs through research and service activities. Our programs are comprehensive in perspective and both draw on and contribute to other graduate programs in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership. Candidates who are prepared to engage in cross-disciplinary teaching, research, and service will be especially welcomed. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise or contribute to doctoral dissertations. The College of William and Mary School of Education faculty maintain a two course per academic semester teaching load. The College expects active faculty participation in school and institutional governance. Faculty must be able to interact effectively with graduate students as well as university and K-12 colleagues. Higher Education faculty members work collaboratively with professionals on campus and throughout the state.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in higher education, educational leadership, or a related area by the time of appointment; will have an established record of peer-reviewed work through conference papers, publications, grants or other recognizable achievements; and will show distinct promise of outstanding teaching preparedness and commitment, consistent with William and Mary’s traditions and expectations. We prefer candidates who have taught at the graduate level.

The position requires evidence of disciplinary grounding in the study of higher education, including international research, teaching and learning, faculty work, history, or technology and teaching. We expect the successful applicant to show, by depth of professional experience and personal commitment, the potential to mentor and advise master’s and doctoral students with varied interests and career aspirations. We welcome expertise in other aspects of post-secondary education, as well as competence in research methods.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience teaching graduate students and supervising master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. We seek a colleague with research and teaching interests that include one or more of the following focal areas: history, faculty work, learning strategies, critical theory, and international contexts. Experience and interest in program and course development is also desirable.
