W. Scott McIntyre Memorial Scholarship Program

The University of San Diego, through the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), is pleased to offer the W. Scott McIntyre Memorial Scholarship for graduate students in SOLES. Scholarships are awarded annually to incoming and continuing students and are paid twice at $3,000 per semester, totaling $6,000 for the year.

This scholarship award is in memory of W. Scott McIntyre, who received his business degree from the University of San Diego. McIntyre was very interested in real estate and finance, however, he maintained a passion for education and those involved in furthering their goals through education. Despite an untimely death, his passion and generosity are recognized through this scholarship program named in his honor. The scholarship will be awarded to qualified students who share similar passion for learning and are enrolled in one of the graduate programs in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences. The scholarship is made possible due to the generosity of a private donor from the San Diego Foundation.

Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the W. Scott McIntyre Memorial Scholarship, the following criteria must be satisfied:
  • Incoming or continuing SOLES graduate student with demonstrated financial need.
  • Enrolled in at least six graduate units during each semester in which scholarship is awarded.
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.5 in both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • All admissions and financial aid forms must be properly completed and processed. Each applicant must file the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For the FAFSA application, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • We understand some international students may be unable to complete the FAFSA. Please simply note that on your scholarship application.

Application Procedure

1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form

2. Respond to the following four questions:

·        How did you become interested in your field of study (600 words maximum)?

·        What do you believe you can contribute to your field upon completion of your degree (600 words maximum)?

·        When faced with an ethical dilemma, what did you draw upon as a guide to make a decision (250 words maximum)?

·        Please give three reasons why you are the best candidate for this scholarship (250 words maximum).

3. Letter of recommendation from a professor. This letter should address the applicant's financial need and academic performance. Please have your recommender email the letter to soles-scholarship@sandiego.edu and be sure they include "W. Scott McIntyre" in the subject line. Applications without a letter of recommendation will not be considered.
