CHARACTER MATTERS—On the Court—On the Field—On the Playground—On the Bench—In the Stands
Our experiences in sports as players, coaches, or administrators should lead us, as Pope Paul II stated, to the “integral development of the person.”
The purpose of this one–day symposium is to explore and examine the spiritual and moral dimensions participation in interscholastic competition for students from elementary to for high school.
The questions for this symposium are:
- Is there a personal-spiritual component to participating in organized sports?
- Does participation in sports contribute to the spiritual and moral development of participants?
How might sports contribute to the spiritual development of participants through reflection, inquiry, perseverance, performance, teamwork, courage, empathy, service and other moral-character traits?
