Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research

Scholarship. Service. Solutions.

The Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research educates leaders and advances best practices in the nonprofit and philanthropic community through academic excellence, applied learning, and research that examines issues of strategic importance to the sector.

The Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research, which is part of the Department of Leadership Studies, consists of four components:

"The Nonprofit Leadership and Management Program at USD meets and exceeds my expectations. It combines theory and practice at the highest level, while cultivating an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support. The program is rigorous and coursework is demanding, yet there is no sense of competitiveness between and among students. The professors are among the brightest I have ever encountered, yet remain accessible. Most importantly, the program has afforded me a unique opportunity to explore and deepen my understanding of the sector as a whole while maintaining a private consulting practice. I literally take NLMP theory and practice to work with me on a daily basis. I have no doubt that the effects of this program reach well beyond the student and into the community at large."

The Lobbying Strategy Handbook

The Lobbying Strategy Handbook shows how students with passion for a cause can learn to successfully influence lawmaking in the United States. The centerpiece of this book is a 10-step framework that walks the reader through the essential elements of conducting a lobbying campaign. The framework is illustrated by three separate case studies that show how groups of people have successfully used the model. Undergraduate, graduate students, and anyone interested in making a difference, can use the book to guide them in creating and conducting a grassroots campaign from start to finish.
