Mobile Technology Learning Center
The MTLC is designed to establish the university research environment of the future, while concurrently fueling innovation in K-12 education. Research projects focus on the applications of mobile learning devices to learning and tests new solutions in real-world contexts—schools. The MTLC involves collaborations with local PK-12 districts to test research findings and provide future teachers with unique teaching and research opportunities.
MTLC Research Study: The Effects of Mobile Devices on Teaching and Learning in Local School District
The Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) commissioned the MTLC to conduct a study on how the use of mobile devices is affecting teaching and learning in the district. The recently released study was designed and conducted in the second year of the district’s one-to-one iPad initiative.
"Research found that iPads promoted 21st century skills like creative thinking, communication and problem solving for students in EUSD (Encinitas Union School District). But the study also found there was room for improvements. Notably, it recommended the district dedicate more resources to better train teachers in leading classrooms with iPads."
