MA Nonprofit Leadership and Management
Expected Graduation Date
What do you hope to do with your degree and why?
I have been working in the nonprofit sector for many years and I hope to use this degree to make a bigger impact, not only with my organization, but through collaborating with other nonprofits. Given the large number of nonprofits in San Diego and the limited resources available, organizations need to work together to achieve their mission and develop new and innovative programs.
How did you hear about SOLES, and why did you choose to enroll?
I first heard about SOLES when I was inquiring about the nonprofit certificate program offered through USD. I went to visit the University and spoke with several current students and faculty and realized that the Master's program offered a much more diverse and comprehensive curriculum.
Are you currently working? If so, do you work full-time, part time, and what do you do?
I currently work full time as the Director of Community Services at the California Ballet Company. Like many nonprofits, we have a small staff and I have the opportunity to serve in multiple roles. I work with the volunteers, event coordination, fundraising and wardrobe to name a few. This involves building relationships with interns, parents, members, donors, schools, and corporate and community partners.
Is there anything specific you would like to share with prospective students?
Becoming a part of SOLES has not only helped me in my professional career but also to grow on an individual level. The core classes, electives and faculty have supported my goal to be a changemaker at home, in the community and in my job. If I were to offer one piece of advice I would say to take advantage of the accessibility to the amazing faculty that are all experts in their field and always willing to talk to you.
