Giselle Vallejo

MA Counseling, specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

When did you begin your program, and when do you anticipate completing it?

I began in September 2014 and anticipate completing May 2017.

What is your background? For example, where are you from, where else have you earned a degree, and where have you worked?

I was born and raised in the South Bay area of San Diego. I went to school at Southwestern Community College, then transferred to San Diego State University where I received a degree in Religious Studies. I have worked as a telemarketer, insurance sales representative, mariachi coach and as a musician at Old Town Mexican Café. I have also volunteered at shelter homes, the American Red Cross, Elizabeth Hospice and at high schools as a mentor.

Have you completed an international experience? What did you do?

I completed my first international experience last summer with Dr. Johnson in Bali. I will be going to Sweden and Finland at the end of the semester to complete an independent study.

Are there specific SOLES faculty, staff or administrators you feel have contributed significantly to your success? How have they helped?

Everyone in the department has contributed tremendously in their own way and has played a role in my learning experience. Without the help and contribution of everyone, my experience would not be the same.

Is there anything specific you would like to share with prospective students?

Take into consideration the atmosphere of a program because it speaks volumes about the experience. I could not be happier here and I truly appreciate all the hard work my classmates, professors and the faculty put into helping with my experience as a future clinical mental health counselor.
