MA Counseling, specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
What do you hope to do with your degree and/or credential, and why?
I hope to use my degree to counsel within the military community; I’m passionate about this population as a veteran and a spouse. I have seen firsthand the complexity regarding stigma and resources available for service members in need of mental health services and I want to make sure that service members are getting the mental health care that they need during service and after service.
When did you begin your program, and when do you anticipate completing it?
I started the program Fall 2014 and anticipate finishing Summer 2017.
How did you hear about SOLES, and why did you choose to enroll?
This program really stood out when comparing similar programs in the San Diego area. It had the best faculty and the best reputation for post-graduate placement.
What is your background? For example, where are you from, where else have you earned a degree, and where have you worked?
I earned an AS in San Antonio, TX at Northwest Vista Community College and my BA in Psychology and Health Care Administration from Ashford University while living abroad in Italy.
What are your plans for after graduation? What is your dream job?
My dream job is working in the Department of Defense counseling active duty military and advocating to reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health services in the military.
Is there anything else you would like to share with prospective students?
I was recently selected to be a first year representative for the SOLES Student Graduate Association which is a really great organization striving to serve the SOLES family through many different types of events and socials. It has been a really great experience so far.
