M.Ed. in TESOL, Literacy and Culture
Marie Webb began her career as an adult ESL teacher in Seoul, South Korea in 2010 where she worked for YBM Language Institute, commonly known as the largest ESL corporation in Korea. She taught adults ages 18 and up from a wide variety of backgrounds and socio economic statuses. Her students in Korea ranged from working professionals, university students, retirees, and even Buddhist monks.
After one year teaching at the YBM headquarters in Seoul, Marie began a graduate program at The University of San Diego to improve her educational practice while helping to meet her future career goals. The M.Ed. in TESOL, Culture, and Literacy program immediately opened many doors for her future career opportunities as an educator within the San Diego region and abroad.
During the summer of 2012, Marie worked as a full-time Professor of ESL at Japan Women’s University in Tokyo, Japan. The short term contract allowed her to experience life as an educator at the collegiate level and offered a competitive salary within her field. Upon returning to San Diego in fall to complete her Masters in December 2012, Marie took a position as an instructional assistant at Miramar Community College in an ESOL 20 course. She is currently volunteering as a USD ambassador where she serves at various campus events. She also served as a panelist at UCSD's career week in November, 2012 sharing her experiences living and working abroad.
Overall, her rewarding experiences teaching and living abroad have allowed her the confidence and cultural awareness that lead to her chosen career path as an ESL professional. Marie will serve as a part-time adjunct at Miracosta Community College in the spring of 2013.
