Undergraduate Minor In Leadership Studies

Department of Leadership Studies

Program of Study

The minor in leadership studies offers undergraduate students in any major the opportunity to learn about developing leadership in their personal and professional lives. Students learn about their leadership strengths and areas for improvement.  They also explore the dynamics of groups, change management and the ethical dimensions of leadership.  Classes are intellectually rigorous, interactive, and relevant to real world concerns and leadership challenges.  Instructors mentor and guide students to understand themselves, others and groups.  Most classes include projects that connect with students’ specific interests and personal and professional goals.  Practical experiences provide students with the opportunity to develop their leadership capacity while gaining work experience in the community.  Many students attend and present at professional leadership conferences through LEAD 365 Professional Engagement.

This minor is recommended for sophomores and juniors. Interested freshmen should enroll in Emerging Leaders to begin the program. In the Emerging Leaders class, students discuss the challenges of entering university life, and they explore the many leadership experiences available to them at USD.

Students may take this program separately or in conjunction with the Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate Program.
