Leadership Coaching Program

The Leadership Coaching courses provide professionals from the community and interested alumni an opportunity to complete the requirements necessary to earn a nationally recognized credential in an emerging field.

Leadership Coaching

Our courses use proven approaches that prepare established and aspiring coaches with the skills needed to advance their professions. They are unique in helping coaches become reflective practitioners who are able to bring quality and depth to their work in a range of professional settings.  An emphasis is placed on developing the coach as an instrument of a practice where the relationship with the client is at the center.

Professionals with established coaching practices, those who are new to the field, human resource officers and those from related careers are ideal candidates. Consultants and clinicians can also benefit greatly from the program. Managers who find that coaching is increasingly an expectation in their work will also find value in completing these courses.

Participants who successfully complete all five courses will be eligible for the Board Certified Coach credential (BCC) exam through the Center for Credentialing and Education.

The University of San Diego, Department of Leadership Studies is a BCC founding CCE-approved coach training provider for the Executive Leadership Coaching certification preparation.

Self and Systems in Coaching involves attendance at Leadership for Change, which is a three-day group relations conference held each January and July at USD. A leadership coaching reflection will also be required as part of your emerging coaching practice. This course seeks to engage participants in a process of inquiry designed to cultivate the conditions, knowledge, and capacity for exercising effective leadership – on personal, community, organizational and planetary levels – in order to energize organizations, liberate people’s capacities in service of purpose, promote healing, and affirm life. This course seeks to create a space in which participants can build on their natural skills and previous experience, become familiar with theoretical frameworks critical for understanding the nuances of leadership, develop more adequate ways of understanding, perceiving and sensing, formulate and test hypotheses, surface unexamined assumptions, become more aware of habitual patterns of action/reaction, take risks, discern imaginative responses to current realities, experiment with different behaviors, assess what actions serve the deep purpose in various situations, and provide effective leadership in real time.
