International Requirement

Gain an immersive learning experience, nearby or abroad.

At the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, diverse perspectives mean the world to us, and multiculturalism informs everything we do. We know that we can benefit as scholars and as global citizens by understanding the experiences and challenges of other cultures and populations.

An international experience is required for every SOLES degree student, because classroom academics can't replicate what happens when you cross borders—geographically, socioeconomically or culturally. Work with your academic advisor to find an enriching and meaningful fit for your studies, whether it's a nearby trip to Tijuana or a short-term course halfway around the world.

The Global Center: Your passport to greater understanding.

To our students, it's not a requirement: it's an opportunity.

Every SOLES student must step beyond political borders to expand social understanding. The Global Center offers short-study international experiences designed for just that. Choose among more than a dozen options on several continents, every year, exploring topics like leadership in Belgium, school counseling in Chile and educational systems in the United Kingdom.

In the words of one recent counseling student,

“The depth of knowledge I acquired could have only been reached while in another country, especially a country so different than the U.S. Going abroad enhances one’s worldview, and as counselors, I believe it is so important for us to experience another culture and country because that cultural awareness makes stronger practitioners.”
