John Joe Schlichtman is an Assistant Professor in the Community, Urbanization, and Culture Concentration within the Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego. “Professor J.J.” received his Ph.D. from New York University. He teaches Contemporary Urban Social Issues, Cities in a Global Context, Urban Planning, The Modern Urban Community, and Perspectives on the City. Dr. Schlichtman is currently writing about his most recent research on how cities create economic niches in the global economy. His most recent work, a co-authored article (with Jason Patch) entitled "Contextualizing Impressions of Neighborhood Change: Linking Business Directories to Ethnography," is forthcoming in City and Community. This academic year, Dr. Schlichtman is presenting his work at the meetings of the American Sociological Association, the Pacific Sociological Association, and the Global Studies Association. Professor J.J. is a Resident Faculty and will live in the Vistas in the 2008-2009 academic year.
