About the OSLI
A collaborative office that works closely with other offices and individuals at USD to support student learning and student success!
- FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE (FYE): The Office of Student Learning Initiatives helps to coordinate programs and services to support student success and retention in the first year of college, including the FRESH@USD program, FYE Online Resources, and Academic Assistance Planning.
- FRESH @ USD: The FRESH @ USD program offers a variety of sessions designed specifically to assist students with the transition to college. New USD sessions will have the opportunity to attend sessions of their choosing during their first semester in college.
- FYE ONLINE RESOURCES: FYE Online Resources is a web-based resource containing short articles designed to assist first-year students make a successful transition to USD both in and outside the classroom.
- ASSESSMENT & REFERRAL: The OSLI staff and peer advisors are available to administer and discuss a short student performance assessment. The assessment is used to assist center staff with problem identification and appropriate referral.
- ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE PLANNING/PEER ADVISING: The OSLI professional staff and peer advisors conduct advising sessions to assist all freshmen and sophomores on academic probation with the development of an academic assistance plan. All students are welcome to participate in this program to improve their academic performance.
- STUDENT ASSESSMENT: The OSLI assists with administering and reporting findings from assessments of first year students and the first year student experience, including the Cooperative Institutional Research Project (CIRP) "Freshman Survey” and “Your First College Year”(YFCY) survey.
