Interrupting the hallways of the Shiley Center for Science and Technology are circular nodes featuring signage for donors and decorative elements with a scientific theme. The ceiling is inset with a pattern evocative of electrons orbiting the atomic nucleus and the floor is comprised of a tile mosaic. Several different mosaics representing the four disciplines housed in the science building are found on different hallways. Each mosaic represents what a scientist might view under a microscope (sections of muscle or plant tissue, diatoms), through a telescope (formation of galaxies), or by molecular modeling. ![]() |
