Hate Crimes/Bias Incidents

USD is a diverse community of which we are proud. Sometimes, some of our newer students come from environments that are not as rich in cultural and religious diversity. Hateful speech and conduct against others of different backgrounds and cultures is unacceptable at a university which prides itself on the recognition of the dignity of each individual (USD Mission Statement)."The university is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and collaborative community accentuated by a spirit of freedom and charity; and marked by protection of the rights and dignity of the individual. The university values students, faculty and staff from different backgrounds and faith traditions and is committed to creating an atmosphere of trust, safety and respect in a community characterized by a rich diversity of people and ideas."

Harassment of others because of a persons race, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or because he/she perceives that the other person has one or more of these characteristics is against the law and will not be tolerated by the University. Severe disciplinary action and possible criminal prosecution will follow.
