Location: ALCALA VISTAS AREA
Summary: At approximately 0700 Public Safety received a report of a vehicle that had driven down an embankment off of Via Las Cumbres, and had caused extensive property damage. Upon investigation, an individual not affiliated with the university was located by Public Safety, and placed into the custody of SDPD for driving under the influence of alcohol. Four unoccupied vehicles belonging to resident students were damaged in the crash. The driver sustained only minor injuries.

Summary: At approximately 1134 Public Safety received a report of traffic accident involving a non-student and a university employee. Upon investigation, the non-student had made a U-turn in front of the kiosk and struck an oncoming vehicle. The drivers exchanged information, and the university employee was transported by paramedics for further evaluation.

Both the vent cover and her vehicle sustained minor to moderate damage. The student did not sustain any injuries.

Location: PARDEE LEGAL RESEARCH CENTER
Summary: At approximately 6:00 pm on Monday, May 4, a University of San Diego commuter student witnessed a male subject exit a female restroom within the Legal Research Center. The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, with shoulder-length, wavy brown hair, and was last seen wearing light blue jeans, a plain white T-shirt, and black sneaker-type shoes. The suspect was also seen carrying a black briefcase-type bag. USD Department of Public Safety was contacted by the student on 05/07/09 at approximately 8:45am. The incident remains under investigation. Location: ALCALA VISTAS E LOT
Summary: At approximately 2135 Public Safety received a report of a suspicious individual that appeared to be checking if car doors were locked. Upon investigation, the suspect was contacted, identified as a non student, and was found in possession of items that had been stolen from unlocked vehicles in the Vistas parking lot, and a window hammer (burglary tool). SDPD was contacted, and arrested the suspect for violating parole, for burglarizing vehicles, and for carrying burglary tools. Public Safety contacted the owners of the burglarized vehicles, and one resident student was able to identify and retrieve his personal GPS. Due to their timely reporting, Public Safety was able to apprehend the suspect.

The chain had been left on the ground, but the bicycle and padlock were missing.

Summary: At approximately 0122 Public Safety received a report of vandalism to a residence hall. Upon investigation, a resident student had observed two other resident students leaving the area immediately after hearing a bang, and discovered two hallway lights broken. Public Safety conducted a follow up investigation with the two resident students seen leaving the area, and one student was found to have cuts on his hands. Upon questioning, the student admitted to having punched the light fixtures and breaking them, and received a citation for destruction of university property. Both students were also found to be under the influence of alcohol, and all four residents of the room were cited for Minor in Possession.

SDPD was also contacted to evaluate possible drug or alcohol impairment of the residents. Summary: At approximately 2:45 pm on Thursday, May 14, a University of San Diego resident student was approached by an unknown male subject outside of Copley Library and was subjected to an unwanted physical embrace. Yesterday, it was reported to Public Safety that the same male subject had previously approached and made inappropriate remarks to the resident student on May 8 near the Missions B area after exiting a white 4-door SUV. The male subject is described as 20-25 years old, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, 5’8”-5’11” tall, 160-180 lbs, with short, thick brown hair and brown eyes, and unshaven. He was last seen wearing a pink shirt and pink striped linen shorts. The incidents remain under investigation. Summary: At approximately 12:31am on Friday, May 15, a University of San Diego resident student reported that he was allegedly contacted earlier in the evening by two male individuals that were demanding the whereabouts of another resident student. The individuals have both been described as white males approximately 5’10” in height. One subject was wearing a gray Tshirt and had earrings, while the other subject was wearing a white Tshirt; both individuals were wearing shorts. A threatening statement was made by one of the individuals in reference to the student they were attempting to locate. The individuals were advised that the resident student was not present, and they left the area without incident. Public Safety officers and Residential Life Staff responded and checked the surrounding areas. The subjects were unable to be located. The incident remains under investigation. Upon investigation, the student had been drinking at an off-campus location, and was found unresponsive with vomit on her person. The student was transported by paramedics for possible alcohol poisoning.

Summary: At approximately 0122 a Public Safety officer observed a male individual riding a bike with two large bags filled with recyclables leave the UC area. The officer contacted the individual, identified that he was not affiliated with the university, and advised him that he was on private property. SDPD was contacted when the individual revealed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and assumed custody of the male subject.

Summary: At approximately 1448 Public Safety received a theft report involving a resident student’s personal property. Upon investigation, the student had returned from an off-campus party with two non-students. The laptop was discovered missing after the two non-students left her residence the following morning. There were no signs of forced entry, and no other items were missing from the area. Public Safety is currently conducting a follow up investigation.

Summary: At approximately 2149 Public Safety was flagged down by a concerned community member who had witnessed a female subject take two chairs from outside of the UC, place them in her vehicle, and drive away. Upon investigation, Public Safety was able to identify a vehicle matching the description, contact and identify the driver and her passenger as resident students, and locate the missing chairs in her vehicle. The student drove away at an accelerated speed after being contacted by the officer. The student driver was cited for attempted theft of university property, as well as a citation for driving recklessly.

Summary: At approximately 0252 a Public Safety officer observed one individual being supported by another, and accompanied by a third. Upon investigation, one individual was contacted, identified as resident student, and the other two individuals were helping him to his room due to his high level of intoxication. Public Safety determined that he was unable to care for himself. The student was voluntarily transported to Detox (BAC .187), were he was later rejected. SDPD was contacted, and arrested the student for being drunk in public.

Summary: At approximately 0443 Public Safety responded to two reports of a suspicious individual inside of a dumpster on campus.  Upon investigation the individual was found hiding in a dumpster, was identified and advised that if he returned to campus he would be arrested for trespassing. The individual is described as a White male, 26 years of age, 5’9” weighing 190 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes. Upon further investigation the individual was also found to be in possession of a 3.5 inch folding pocket knife. Anyone seeing suspicious persons or activity on campus is asked to immediately contact Public Safety at x7777.
