Summary: At approximately 1113 the Department of Public Safety received a report of a hit and run involving a resident student’s vehicle. Upon investigation, the student observed scratches on his front bumper, but was not sure if they occurred on or off campus. Surveillance of the area was reviewed, and there were no indications that the incident occurred on campus at that time.

Summary: At approximately 1217 the Department of Public Safety received a report of an individual acting suspiciously. Upon investigation, a University employee had observed a male inside his office, and was told by the individual that he worked with another department on campus. The subject then left the office. The reporting party was later informed that the department mentioned by the male subject does not work during weekends. There were no items missing from the office. Summary: At approximately 1521 the Department of Public Safety received a theft report of a commuter student’s vehicle. Upon investigation, the student had parked and secured her 2003 black GMC SUV with chrome rims on the 2nd level of West Parking Structure on 02/26/2009 at 1500hours, and discovered her vehicle missing on 03/2/09 at 1520hours. Summary: At approximately 1646 the Department of Public Safety received a theft report involving a resident student’s personal property. Upon investigation, the student had left her backpack unsecured behind the cashier’s counter in Main Dining. When she returned to collect her belongings, her backpack had been left at the Info Desk. The student then noticed that her iPod Touch phone was missing from her backpack. There were no other items missing from the backpack.

Incident Class & Type CIVIL RIGHTS BIAS MOTIVATED INCIDENT (VERBAL)
Location: SAN BUENAVENTURA
Summary: On March 7, 2009 the Department of Public Safety received a report (case #09-00246) of a bias-motivated statement that was directed at two resident students at approximately 1:30am, but was not reported until 10:30am. The incident involved a homophobic statement, and was said by an individual who was with a group of other resident students and non-students. Public Safety worked in conjunction with Residential Life staff, and was able to identify the individuals involved with the incident. The resident students involved have been referred to Student Affairs. The University of San Diego will not tolerate hate crimes or any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions. Location: MAHER HALL
Summary: Between the hours of 12:30pm and 10:30pm on March 8, 2009, an unknown individual(s) burglarized two residences in Maher Hall. The suspect(s) entered the residences through windows that had been left unsecured, and had taken various electronic equipment belonging to the residents of each room. Several other screens on the 4th floor of the building were found pushed in. SDPD was contacted and responded to the scene. SDPD was able to lift several fingerprints from both areas. The Department of Public Safety is currently conducting a follow up investigation regarding these incidents. Location: MISSIONS A AREA
Summary: At approximately 7:15am on 03/10/2009, a University of San Diego resident student reported suspicious circumstances involving a common area window screen being found removed, and the window open of her 2nd floor Missions A residence. The student, and her roommate, had heard movement and what sounded like kissing noises in their common area between midnight and 12:30am, but did not immediately report the situation to Public Safety.
Public Safety officers responded to the scene immediately following notification of the incident, and arranged for a window lock to be installed on the residents’ window. A follow up investigation is currently being conducted.
Anyone having any information regarding this incident or observing suspicious activity is encouraged to contact Public Safety at 619-260-2222. Residents are reminded of the importance to keep windows secure and not leave doors propped open. Residents are also requested to verify that their windows can be properly secured. Additional window locks are available through Residential Life, and all residents are strongly encouraged to utilize these devices. Summary: At approximately 1553 the Department of Public Safety received a theft report involving two commuter students’ personal property. Upon investigation, an unknown individual was observed by another student taking two wallets containing various credit and identification cards from jeans that had been left unattended and unsecured within a locker. The suspect was unable to be located. The suspect has been described as a black male, approximately 5’8” tall, and approximately 170lbs. The suspect was last seen wearing a “USC” jersey, blue jeans and a carrying a red backpack. SDPD responded to the scene and determined that the individual, who had been drinking and had driven his car on campus, had a current outstanding warrant for his arrest for an unrelated incident. Summary: At approximately 0034 the Department of Public Safety received a report from Resident Assistants of four subjects who were joyriding in a university owned golf cart. Upon investigation, the individuals were contacted, identified as a resident student and two guests, and had been previously drinking within a residence hall. The student was cited for having consumed alcohol, furnishing false information, attempted theft of university property, and failure to comply. The two non-students were able to care for themselves, and were advised to not return to campus or they would be subject to arrest for trespassing. The non-students transported themselves off campus. One individual was unable to be located.

Summary: At approximately 9:39pm on Wednesday, March 25, a resident University of San Diego student witnessed a male subject look through her University Terrace Apartment bathroom window as she was showering. The suspect was described as a white male of average build in his late 20s/early 30s with dark hair, did not have facial hair, and was reported as having dark eyes and black-framed glasses with clear lenses. The suspect is assumed to be at least 6’0” to have been able to see through the bathroom window without assistance. USD Department of Public Safety was contacted by the student immediately after the incident occurred. Public Safety officers responded and checked the surrounding areas.
