Incident Class & Type BIAS MOTIVATED INCIDENT (WRITTEN)
Location: SAN ANTONIO DE PADUA APARTMENTS
Summary: At approximately 9:45 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the Department of Public Safety received a report of a student who was allegedly being harassed and threatened in a racially-biased manner via a Facebook “event.” The event is being investigated and has been classified as a Bias Motivated Incident because some of the language used in the Facebook posting contained ethnic derogatory statements.  Support services have been provided to the student directly impacted by this incident.  Three possible suspects, also USD students, have been identified in connection with this incident and will be referred to the Judicial Office. A Sensitive Issues Team (SIT) was convened to review the incident, and have referred the incident to DPS for further investigation. Anyone having knowledge of this incident is encouraged to contact DPS immediately at 619-260-7777. The University of San Diego will not tolerate any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions.
