Summary: At approximately 1702 Public Safety responded to a late report of an individual acting suspiciously. Upon investigation, a Hispanic male who appeared to be in his 30s approached a student on 3/1/2010 at approximately 4:15 pm and asked where a campus building was, and then offered her a ride. The subject was driving a white pickup truck with a Charger’s (football) bolt across the back window. The subject then left campus.

Summary: At approximately 1821 Public Safety responded to a report of a possibly stolen vehicle. Upon investigation, an unknown individual had driven an employee’s vehicle from the top level to the 5th level of the Mission Parking Structure between 8:00 am and 4:24 pm on 3/4/2010. There were no signs of forced entry, and the vehicle had been secured. No items were reported missing from the vehicle.

Summary: At approximately 1603 Public Safety responded to a report of an individual acting suspiciously. Upon investigation, a visitor had noticed an older male subject, described as approximately 50years old, balding with dirty blonde curly hair and blue eyes, allegedly staring at her. The subject then proceeded to look under the table for an unspecified amount of time, at which point the reporting party left the area. While in her vehicle, the reporting party noticed the male subject leaving Copley Library. He was last observed wearing blue jeans and a light blue fleece jacket.

Location: SHILEY SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER
Summary: At approximately 8:27 am on Monday, March 15, 2010, the Department of Public Safety received a report of what appeared to be an anti-Semitic drawing that was discovered on a whiteboard in a faculty research laboratory in the Science and Technology Center. An unknown individual had altered an existing drawing into a caricature of Adolf Hitler and had added the words “I love Jews” written near it, all in non-permanent marker. The reporting party believes that the drawing was possibly altered sometime between March 1 and March 14, 2010. Public Safety officers photographed the image and are working to determine the approximate time frame and individual(s) responsible for this incident. In conjunction with USD’s Community on Patrol activities, the Department of Public Safety encourages anyone with knowledge of this incident to contact (619) 260-7777. The University of San Diego will not tolerate hate crimes or any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions. Upon investigation, an unknown individual had removed six batteries and a battery charger for a University-owned golf cart, sometime between 4:00 pm on 3/15/2010 and 7:30 am on 3/16/2010. The batteries and charger were located beneath a seat that was not able to be secured. Several screws from the battery terminals had been removed. No other items were reported missing.

Upon investigation, a student had last observed her bicycle that was secured to a railing with a combination lock and chain on 03/19/2010 at approximately 5:00 pm. The student noticed her bicycle missing on 03/24/2010. The lock and chain were also missing.

Summary: At approximately 10:37 am on Friday, March 26, 2010, the Department of Public Safety received a report of an alleged bias motivated incident. Upon investigation, a student had sent a package to the Women’s Center. A Sensitive Issues Team (SIT) was convened on March 29th to review the event and to develop an appropriate response.  As more information was gathered, a second SIT meeting was convened on April 13, 2010 at which point the incident was determined to be a Bias Motivated incident.  The University of San Diego will not tolerate any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions.
