Summary: At approximately 1220 a Public Safety officer observed an individual run a stop sign. Upon investigation, the driver was contacted, identified as a resident student, and found to be in possession of an illegal drug. SDPD was contacted and arrested the student for being in possession of the drug.

Location: ALCALA VISTAS W LOT
Summary: At approximately 1220 Public Safety responded to a report of vandalism involving multiple vehicles. Upon investigation, unknown individual(s) had bent several license plates, shattered a side-view mirror and had defecated in the front seat of one student’s vehicle that had been left unsecured. Public Safety was able to locate evidence and surveillance video footage that led to the contact of five students, three of whom confessed to the damages. All five students were cited for underage drinking and possession of stolen property. Three students received additional citations for the various vandalism charges, including the vehicle damages as well as for the USD property that they admitted to damaging.

Summary: At approximately 1409 Public Safety responded to a report of a foul odor in a residential community hallway. Upon investigation, an unknown individual had shattered a glass object that emitted the foul odor outside of a resident’s doorway. Summary: At approximately 1937 Public Safety responded to a report of a physical altercation involving multiple people. Upon investigation, one non-student suspect and two student victims were contacted. Multiple other non-students that were allegedly involved left the area before DPS arrived. SDPD was contacted to assist; no arrests were made. The non-student was advised he is not permitted on campus and that he is subject to possible arrest for trespass.

Summary: At approximately 2041 a Public Safety officer observed an individual driving with two passengers in his front passenger seat. Upon contact, the officer identified the driver as a resident student and detected the odor of marijuana. A voluntary vehicle search yielded 1.5g of marijuana and various paraphernalia. The student driver was cited for being in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and for the traffic violation. He was not found to be under the influence of marijuana; the two other individuals were released.

Summary: At approximately 1143 Public Safety responded to assist a Resident Assistant with an incident involving marijuana. Upon investigation, three students were cited for being in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. One student was found to also be unlawfully in possession of prescription medication, and another student was found to be in possession of cocaine and related paraphernalia. SDPD was contacted and cited and released one student for possession of medication without a prescription, and arrested the other student for being in possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and paraphernalia.

Summary: At approximately 1422 Public Safety responded to a report of a knife being observed in plain sight in a student’s vehicle. Upon investigation, the student was contacted and authorized a search of his vehicle and on-campus apartment. In total, the search yielded two knives exceeding the allowable length on campus, a “Nerf” brand sponge-dart gun, and a toy water gun. All items were confiscated, and this case has been referred to Student Discipline.

Summary: At approximately 8:06 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2010, the Department of Public Safety received a report of multiple swastikas and a phallic symbol that was discovered on the windows of a student’s vehicle that was parked in the Olin Hall west lot. An unknown individual(s) had traced the images in the dust on all of the vehicle’s windows. The student had parked her vehicle at approximately 4:15 pm on 4/25/2010, and noticed the images when she returned to her vehicle around 8:00 pm. The student immediately called Public Safety, who photographed the images and are working to determine the individual(s) responsible for this incident. The student indicated she did not feel targeted, and it is believed that the incident was a random act. In conjunction with USD’s Community on Patrol activities, the Department of Public Safety encourages anyone with knowledge of this incident to contact (619) 260-7777. The University of San Diego will not tolerate any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions. Summary: At approximately 12:50 pm on Friday, April 30, 2010, the Department of Public Safety received a report of an unknown subject that had allegedly accessed a student’s non-USD affiliated online social network profile (the student forgot to logout from her account after using a public computer).   This individual then made inappropriate posts on the student’s profile regarding the student’s alleged sexual orientation. Upon investigation, the individual responsible for the posts was identified as a student, contacted and referred to Student Conduct. A Sensitive Issues Team (SIT) was convened to review the incident and determine an appropriate response.  Campus support services were also extended to both the victim and suspect student. The University of San Diego will not tolerate any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions.
