Summary: At approximately 1137 Public Safety responded to a report of a vehicle that had been vandalized on campus between 0530 and 1400 on 12/28/2007.  Upon investigation the victim stated that one of the vehicle’s tires had been slashed.

Summary: At approximately 0252 Public Safety responded to a complaint of excessive noise and loud talking coming from a resident hall room that was previously contacted by Residential Life.  Upon investigation one resident student was cited for a noise violation.

Summary: At approximately 1254 Public Safety observed a vehicle parked on campus with a broken front passenger side window. Upon investigation the owner of the vehicle was identified as a resident student as was contacted.  The owner stated that the vehicle had been parked on campus on 12/18/2007 at 1100. The only item that was found to be missing from the vehicle was an inoperable GPS unit.

Location: ALCALA VISTAS W LOT
Summary: At approximately 1752 Public Safety observed two suspicious individuals loitering around a vehicle in a campus parking lot.  Upon investigation the individuals claimed to be waiting for a student but refused to give the name or show any form of identification. The individuals were advised to leave campus and if they returned they would be subject to arrest for trespassing. The individuals are described as Hispanic males in their mid-twenties, approximately 5’8” and 150-160 lbs. Both individuals have short uncombed black hair.

Summary: At approximately 1656 Public Safety observed a suspicious male running out of a resident hall room. Upon investigation the residents of the room were contacted and the individual that had previous run out of the room returned. Due to a strong smell of marijuana in the room four resident students were cited for being in the presence of marijuana.

Summary: At approximately 0015 Public Safety responded to a report of a possible party occurring in a resident hall apartment.  Upon investigation one resident student was cited for hosting and one resident student was cited for being in the presence of alcohol. All others present were non student, were determined not to be intoxicated and complied with the request to leave campus.

Summary: At approximately 1546 Public Safety responded to a report of students smoking marijuana in a resident hall room.  Upon investigation one resident student was cited for marijuana and possession of knives that are not allowed on campus. The other individual present was a non-student and complied with the request to leave campus. The non-student was also advised that if he returned to campus he would be subject to possible arrest for trespassing.

Summary: At approximately 0037 Public Safety observed an individual who was having trouble standing on her own. Upon investigation the individual was contacted, identified as a commuter student, evaluated and determined to be too intoxicated to care for herself (BAC of .160).  Upon further conversation with the student she became aggressive and uncooperative with the Public Safety officer. San Diego Police were called to the scene to assist and transported the student to detox.

Location: MISSION CROSSROADS
Summary: On January 30, 2008 the Department of Public Safety received a report of a bias related incident which was observed on December 23, 2007. The incident involved bias-related statements that had been written on a newspaper clipping posted on a resident hall room door. The clipping was immediately removed.  Upon receiving the report, Public Safety Officers took photos of the inappropriate statements and commenced an investigation to find the person(s) responsible for the incident.  On January 31, university administrators convened the Sensitive Issues Team which developed a comprehensive action plan including instructing Resident Life staff to initiate educational programs for all resident students reviewing the University of San Diego Student Code of Conduct http://www.sandiego.edu/administration/studentaffairs/documents/Student_Code.pdf Anyone with knowledge of the incident is encouraged to contact the Department of Public Safety at (619) 260-7777. The University of San Diego will not tolerate hate crimes or any bias-related incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions.

Summary: At approximately 2319 Public Safety responded to a report of an extremely intoxicated individual.  Upon investigation the individual was contacted, identified as a commuter student and evaluated. The individual was too intoxicated to answer any questions and was in and out of consciousness. Paramedics were called to the scene and after further evaluation the student was transported to the hospital for possible alcohol poisoning.
