Alcalá Vista Apartments

Vistas Residence HallThe Alcalá Vista Apartments include 192 apartments, and are located adjacent to the Sports Center Complex (gym, locker rooms, weight room, pool, and tennis courts). The majority of these units have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Each of these two-bedroom units accommodates four residents. The three-story units are clustered around three courtyards and feature the Spanish Renaissance architecture that is used throughout the main campus. A reception desk, laundry facilities, study rooms, wide-screen TV, lounge, and staff offices are located on the first floor of Palomar Hall.

The Alcalá Vista Apartments are the home of the Second-Year Experience (SYE) program. This RLC is designed to offer programs and services that are geared to the unique needs of sophomore students, both returning and transfer. Programs include the SYE Welcome Back BBQ, Drop-In Academic Advising, attending athletic events, community service projects, and housing participants of the SYE Abroad program.

The Living in Faith Together (LIFT) UM RLC is a Sophmore RLC that is located in the Borrego Hall, Alcala Vista Apartments. The theme of LIFT is taking leadership in your residential and faith community. Members of LIFT will be provided multiple opportunities to take leadership especially in the faith community on campus.

Palomar Desk
The Palomar Desk is the center of activity for the Alcalá Vista apartments. The front desk staff encodes room key cards, takes messages, gives information, provides vacuums and other sundries for residents.. You can also check out pool table equipment, movies and games for the Palomar Lounge. If you need to mail any items, outgoing mail is picked up twice a day Monday through Friday. You can reach the Palomar Front Desk at extension 3700.

Please note that RAs will be on duty every night at the desk until 12:00 a.m. on weekdays, and 2:00 a.m. on weekends.

 

Palomar Lounge
The lounge is located next to the Palomar desk. It is a great room for studying or hanging out. The Lounge facilities include a billiards table, an air hockey table, computers and a large screen television. Plenty of seats and couches are available, as well as work tables for projects, studying, or just hanging out with your friends. The lounge is also a popular location for resident assistant programs that are open to all of our resident students.

RA Office
The Resident Assistant Office is where you can find Resident Assistants working on programming efforts and performing their on-duty hours. Contact the RA Office by dialing extension 3762. The office is located in the Palomar lounge.

Community Director Office
Will Andrews Community DirectorWilliam Andrews is the Community Director in the Alcalá Vista Apartments. He is excited to be starting his first year in the Residential Life Department at the USD. He is originally from Georgia, but raised in Eastern North Carolina. He graduated from Chowan University in
Murfreesboro, North Carolina with his bachelor¹s in Graphic Communication and Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina with a master¹s in College Student Personnel. Prior to joining the USD, William spent 3 years working at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri as a Residence Hall Coordinator. William is looking forward to discovering
all the wonderful opportunities that San Diego has to offer as far as great beaches, parks, and restaurants. During the day you can find him in his office in Palomar or walking around campus on his way to various meetings.

William's office is located in Palomar 101. His office hours are Monday
through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or by appointment. Like many other
staff across campus, William has other commitments during the day and may
not be in his office. Please email him at williamandrews@sandiego.edu or

Assistant Community Director
Shannon Bradley is the Assistant Community Director in the Alcala Vista Apartments. As a second year graduate student in the School of Education and Leadership Sciences (SOLES) she is pursuing a masters degree in Higher Education Leadership and works closely with the Second Year Experience on campus.
Her office is Palomar 102.  She has limited office hours throughout the week. Please call (ext. 3672), email (shannonbradley@sandiego.edu), or stop by the Palomar Desk to set up an appointment.

Laundry Facilities
The Laundry Facilities are in Palomar. The cost for a load of laundry in the washer is $1.25 and dryers are $.50. You need to purchase a laundry card for $2.00 and you can replenish your money on the card in $5, $10, and $20. Increments. The laundry card machine does not take $1.00 bills.
