FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When will new incoming freshmen and transfer students receive notification of their assigned rooms and roommates?
You will receive an email from the Department of Residential Life via your new USD email account with your room assignment and roommate information on August 8 (i.e. 8-8-08).
Is there anything I can do if I do not get assigned to the room type or area that I wanted?
Unfortunately, we are not always able to give everyone his or her first room/building choice. We encourage you to make the best of the situation by starting the year out with a positive attitude. Each year many students who do not receive their first housing choices make great friends and discover very quickly the benefits of the area where they have been assigned. And your Resident Assistant is there to assist you. Because we anticipate starting the year with all freshman housing areas being full, no room change requests will be accepted until after September 15.
If I have questions regarding my meal plan, whom should I contact?
You should contact Campus Card Services at (619) 260-5999 for all questions regarding campus meal plans.
I am an incoming freshman. Can I live off-campus?
University policy requires that all new freshmen must live on-campus. The only automatic exceptions are for students who will be commuting from the home of their parents or legal guardians. Therefore, any new freshman student desiring an exception to this residency requirement for any other reason must submit his/her request in writing and must receive approval from the Director of Housing prior to making any plans to live off campus. Exceptions (if any) are determined on a case-by-case basis because of the important First Year Experience (FYE) programming that occurs within the residence halls.
If I have not already completed my online housing application, am I still able to do so?
Any incoming freshman and transfer student who has submitted a $250 commitment deposit to Admissions can still sign up for housing. However, this should be completed as soon as possible and campus housing can only be guaranteed for students who complete their online applications no later than Thursday, July 31.
How do new incoming freshmen and transfer students sign up for campus housing?
Instructions and information for the online application process are on page 11 of the New Student Issue Living On At USD .
Note: Transfer students will need to send an email to housing@sandiego.edu with your housing preferences (i.e. room occupancy and name of the building) after you have completed ALL parts of the online application. Since all returning students have already selected their rooms for 2008-09, there will be very limited (if any) single bedrooms available for transfer students.
