Resident Assistant Position

Resident Assistants (RAs) are student staff who live in each hall and provide support to residential students. RAs are assigned to a specific community on a specific staff. Each RA reports directly to their Community Director (CD). At USD, The RA staffs range in size from 8-17. The RA staff’s main objective is to foster a sense of community in each hall.  RAs are responsible for enforcing community standards, upholding health and safety expectations, supporting the programmatic efforts of the area, and being a general resource for their residents. Benefits

The RA position fosters many leadership skills, including organization, communication, and crisis management.  RAs receive a scholarship that covers the cost of their room and a meal plan. There are several meal plan options for RAs, which are selected during the summer prior to the term of employment.  

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student.
  • At the start of the employment term, must be at least a Second Year student.
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or above.
  • Must be in good disciplinary standing.

Timeline

  • January & February 2019: RA Application opens and Student Leader Information Sessions hosted
  • February 10, 2019: RA Application Deadline
  • February 14, 2019 & February 15, 2018: Group Process
  • February 20, 2019, February 21, 2019, & February 22, 2019 : Individual Interviews
  • March 1, 2019: Decision letters sent

How to Apply

  • Attend an information session.  It is required for each RA applicant to attend one session.  Below are the dates of the Information Sessions:
    • Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 12:30PM in UC 107
    • Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 7PM in UC 107
    • Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 1PM in Degheri Alumni Center 120
    • Friday, February 1, 2019 at 3:30PM in UC 107
    • Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:30AM in Missions Crossroads Lounge
    • Monday, February 4, 2019 at 9PM in UC 107
    • Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 6PM in UC 107
    • Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 8:30PM in UC 107
  • Complete an Application by Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 11:59 PM.
    • The application is located on the Online Forms tab of the housing portal.
    • The application will be available starting Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
  • Sign up for a Group Process time by Sunday, February 10, 2019.  These process will take place on:
    • Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 7pm to 9:45pm
    • Friday, February 15, 2019 from 1:45pm to 4:30pm
  • Sign up for an Individual Interview time Sunday, February 10, 2019.  These interviews will take place on:
    • Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 12pm to 5pm
    • Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 9:30am to 2:30pm
    • Friday, February 22, 2019 from 10am to 2pm
  • Decision letters will be sent to your USD email address on Friday, March 1, 2019.
