This issue of USD Magazine is a celebration of a new academic year — with the launching of the new Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, the introduction of a new dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, the hailing of a new freshman class, the signing of a new affiliation with the Franciscan School of Theology and the construction of a new Mobile Technology Learning Center. It’s also a celebration of athletics, as USD welcomes a new head football coach and says farewell and congratulations to baseball slugger Kris Bryant who was drafted No. 2 overall by the Chicago Cubs and the other boys of summer who were drafted or signed by major league baseball organizations. The Decade of Distinction celebrates milestones achieved — academically, athletically and across the campus — during President Mary E. Lyons’ first 10 years as president.
