Julie H. Sullivan
Executive Vice President and Provost
Julie H. Sullivan joined University of San Diego in July 2005 and currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Provost. She is responsible for all degree and non-degree educational programs and support services; all global programs spanning 44 countries; worldwide partnerships and collaborations; and technology platform supporting over 10,000 employees and students. Dr. Sullivan oversees all academic units (College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law, School of Business Administration, Engineering, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, and School of Leadership and Education Sciences), the International Center, Professional and Continuing Education, Copley Library, Information Technology Services, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Career Services. She also oversees the university's chief financial officer and is responsible for the university's operating budget, financial planning, financial and regulatory reporting, investment portfolio, and debt structure.
From July 2003 to 2005, Dr. Sullivan was a professor in the Rady School of Management with a joint appointment in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at University of California, San Diego. Previously, Dr. Sullivan was the Ernst and Young Distinguished Professor at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Dr. Sullivan joined UNC Kenan-Flagler in 1987. During her 17-year tenure at Chapel Hill, Sullivan served as Interim Dean, Chair of the Business School Foundation Board of Trustees, Senior Associate Dean, Associate Dean of the Master of Accounting Program, Director of the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), and Director of the Center for Innovation in Learning.
Dr. Sullivan is an internationally known scholar and educator in accounting and taxation. Her research and teaching focuses on issues related to accounting and financial reporting to shareholders and global tax planning. From 1998 to 2006, she served as a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, the leading nonprofit economic research organization in the United States.
Dr. Sullivan has held numerous professional leadership positions, including Director of Research and Executive Committee Member of the American Accounting Association (a voluntary international organization of over 8,000 members promoting worldwide excellence in accounting education, research and practice) and editorial board member of The Accounting Review and National Tax Journal. She is an active member of the Board of Directors of several public and nonprofit organizations, including Schenectady International Inc. (privately-held global chemical company headquartered in NY), Pico Holdings (publicly-held, diversified holding company headquartered in CA), The Old Globe (a nationally-renown theatre in San Diego), and Project Concern International (a leading international health and development non-governmental agency headquartered in CA).
Dr. Sullivan has undergraduate, Master’s and PhD degrees in business and accounting from the University of Florida and is a non-practicing CPA in Florida.
