San Diego Union Tribune -- Killing Osama bin Laden was no easy task, taking years of incremental intelligence work, painstaking analysis of clues and finally a risky decision to launch a nighttime raid in a foreign country.

What comes after the death of the al-Qaeda founder and leader might be even harder, terrorism experts said.

“The notion of there being a single entity known as al-Qaeda with a central operation that calls the shots and runs tactical operations in countries around the world is no longer true,” said Avi Spiegel, a professor at the University of San Diego who studies terrorist groups in the Middle East.
