Bin Laden Is Dead: What Does It Mean To The Arab World?

KPBS -- Dr. Avi Spiegel is Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of San Diego.

If Osama bin Laden had been killed in his home by American troops, during a covert raid on sovereign Pakistani territory five or six years ago, we might expect a burst of outrage from the Arab world. Such an assault might have provoked vows of revenge and anti-American uprisings from one end of the Middle East to the other.

But this week, we've heard very little from Arab leaders about bin Laden's death and no popular protests. It seems Osama bin Laden had already outlived his relevance in the Arab world, even before last Sunday. Guest speaker Dr. Avi Spiegel discusses. (Full Story)
