Navy

As a value-based institution, graduate study at the University of San Diego will instill in students a more sophisticated understanding of global processes of change, coupled with better analytical and managerial tools.  Graduate courses are small (fewer than 20 students in most cases) and conducted in seminar format, with substantial student participation.  The content and rigor of the program are designed to help students to understand and participate in world affairs while enhancing the students' career prospects in the Navy and beyond.  The Master of Arts program in International Relations is organized around a 10-course (30 units) curriculum in international affairs and comparative politics.

Courses are offered on a rotating basis, every six weeks as opposed to semester system. The program may be completed in approximately fourteen months. However, students have six years to complete the degree, which allows for personal and professional breaks during course offerings. You accelerate through the program as your schedule allows. Additionally, USD's regular tuition rate is reduced by 15% for students in the Navy program.

Naval War College Credit

Students who complete the NWC’s Web-enabled "Strategy and Policy" and/or "National Security Decision Making" courses with a B or better can transfer up to six units (three for each course) toward USD’s Master of Arts in International Relations degree.

Students enrolled in the Fleet Seminar Program can enroll in up to two MAIR courses (if space is available) with “special students” status (i.e., non-degree seeking) and then apply to transfer USD credit to the MA degree offered by the Naval War College.
