For ISA participants with a special interest in the U.S.-Mexico border region, or in border studies, attending this reception at the University of San Diego gave them the opportunity to become familiar with the Trans-Border Institute (TBI), a veritable resource of information on border-related topics. TBI is strategically located in the San Diego and Tijuana region; it was established to promote research and dialogue among the trans-border community regarding current border issues. To accomplish its mission, TBI hosts numerous conferences and workshops which include policy-makers, representatives of the business, and academic communities from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico Border. TBI also awards small grants to scholars to do research on key border issues, including but not limited to law and security, immigration and other topics. TBI also generates a variety of research products pertaining to the complex issues that characterize the border.
