Why do some peacebuilding efforts succeed while others fail?  Can “peace conditionality”—the conditioning of foreign aid on efforts to build a sustainable peace—prevent postwar societies from sliding back into violence?  Dr. Lisa MacLeod, assistant professor of international studies at Soka University of America, will speak on her new book, Constructing Peace, which compares United Nations peacebuilding operations in El Salvador and Cambodia.  Dr. Charles Reilly, visiting professor at the IPJ and former vice-president of the Inter-American Foundation, will offer comments.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
