Thomas Goltz, an independent journalist and author of several acclaimed books, covered Russia’s wars in Chechnya in the 1990s as well as tumultuous developments across the Great Caucasus Mountain Range in Azerbaijan. The Chechnya Diary is a book newly published by St. Martin’s Press/Tom Dunne and focuses on the massacre of Samashki in April 1995, set in the broader context of Chechen history, Soviet nationalities policy, and the Kremlin’s wars in Chechnya in 1994-96 and from 1999 to the present.
