Mr. Ruane, a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University College Cork in Ireland, has published numerous books and articles on the conflict in Northern Ireland. Among these are the Dynamics of Conflict in Northern Ireland: Power, Conflict and Emancipation (co-authored with Jennifer Todd). he is currently writing articles about ethnic conflict in Northern Ireland and the politics of transition. Mr. Ruane had been involved in numerous research networks on European relations, and has organized conferences on the development, culture, and politics of Ireland.
