| Message | Join us for a panel discussion of peacebuilding efforts in Guatemala. During the Summer of 2009 USD sent a team to Quiché – the area in the western highlands of Guatemala that was hardest hit during that country’s 36-year civil war – to conduct a workshop on conflict transformation. The workshop, carried out in conjunction with the newly-established peace center Centro de Paz Bárbara Ford, threw into relief the many types of sometimes violent conflict that persist twelve years after the signing of peace accords. With representatives from nongovernmental organizations as well as local government agencies, the workshop highlighted current efforts in post-conflict peace-building in various regions within the department.
Panelists will discuss the outcomes of the workshop and its relevance for peacebuilding efforts in Guatemala. Panel: *Milburn Line, new executive director, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice *Program Officer Elena McCollim *Community Service Learning Director Elaine Elliott *Anu Lawrence '09, M.A. in Peace & Justice
Light refreshments will be provided. Feel free to bring a lunch. |
