Re-Imagining Borders Photography Contest
Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T2i
My photograph featuring a seashell juxtaposed with a potato chip represents how peoples or ideas separated by boundaries are in reality alike. Boundaries are created to separate two things that seem “different.” But what truly are boundaries? Ultimately, they are figurative lines mentally implemented to create divisions. They divide two things seemingly so different that a line must be drawn to keep the respective sides from influencing each other. If these mental borders were lifted first, then physical ones would follow. Then the long estranged sides could come together, and maybe they would realize how alike they really are. Both are human. Both are part of this world. They would look as if they had never been apart; just as the seashell and the potato chip – both from different worlds – seamlessly blend together. And how much more beautiful is something complete and consummate rather than divided and distant?
