Re-Imagining Borders Photography Contest
Camera: Canon Rebel T3
This picture was taken from the beach at/near Friendship Park in San Diego, California. It consists of the border fence itself being shown against a background of storm clouds over the ocean. The image is supposed to represent the literal border that everyone on either the U.S. or the Mexican side has to deal with, while allowing the clouds to metaphorically show the personal turmoil that can follow when one crosses to the U.S. side illegally. Additionally, once on the U.S. side, you can’t easily see your loved ones on the Mexican side. This is shown by letting the border fence obscure the lower left quartile of the image. You can’t actually see anything of Mexico from the U.S. side. I think this image captures a couple facets of the modern-day border conflict that everyone from this area is a small part of.
