Re-Imagining Borders Photography Contest
Camera: Nikon D5000
This photograph depicts emotional and mental boundaries that are placed upon students by teachers or parents. It shows that breaking free from these boundaries can be a real struggle. These could be restraints from following your dreams, misunderstandings, feeling like you aren’t accepted, and many other issues. Most teenagers feel as if their parents don't always 'get' what they truly want to be in life and this photograph represents that suffocated, trapped feeling. Personally, I’ve always felt like conceptual art and photography was something my parents never really understood, and I was afraid of being judged for being too ‘weird’ or ‘creepy.’ I was worried that they wouldn’t support my dreams, because being an artist of any kind is unrealistic and impractical. I hope this picture speaks to everyone out there, and says: Stop being terrified. I can tell you from experience that breaking these boundaries is an amazing feeling.
