Water in the San Diego-Baja California Region

Message

The Trans-Border Institute is in the process of writing a special report titled "Water in the San Diego-Baja California Region." The report will summarize the major water policy challenges for the San Diego-Baja California region, and outline the possible policy alternatives for meeting our future water needs as a bi-national community. The objective is to provide policy makers and the general public with a clear understanding of the major challenges and potential solutions for our region on this issue. The report will cover a broad range of topics including but not limited to: groundwater apportionment and salinity, trans-boundary aquifers, distribution and infrastructure for Colorado River water, urban versus agricultural water use; desalination; methods of water conservation on both sides of the border; and wastewater treatment and water quality. TBI held an advisory committee meeting on July 19, 2012, composed of water policy experts from both sides of the border, to discuss possible directions for further research for this report.
