WorldLink to Host Model United Nations Conference
More than 350 Middle and High School Students Will Participate in the 35th SD JMUN Conference
On Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31, the WorldLink Program of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ) will host the San Diego Regional Junior Model United Nations’ 35th Annual Conference – the oldest JMUN Conference west of the Mississippi River.
In order to successfully participate in a Model United Nations Conference, students must gain a basic understanding of the United Nations structure and internal rules of procedure. They must familiarize themselves with the foreign policy positions of their assigned country, as well as its pattern of participation within the United Nations. Furthermore, they are required to dress in business attire and maintain a respectable level of decorum.
A JMUN Conference is for 6th-9th graders. It is often the experience that creates a life-long passion for MUN, which provides opportunities for participation through the college level, nationally and internationally. Through the JMUN, youth assess and strengthen their skills of research and debate, as well as leadership and negotiation.
The San Diego Regional JMUN Conference is student-run, and several youth leaders serve as directors (Secretary-Generals) and specific committee chairpersons. This year, with support from the WorldLink Program, the San Diego Regional JMUN Conference will host over 350 students representing eight schools throughout San Diego County. Student leaders from Scripps Ranch High School and Patrick Henry High School serve as primary organizers.
