| Message | Anniversary conference to begin next month Celebrating its 10th year, the award-winning Women PeaceMakers Program will hold an anniversary celebration with alumnae from the program and host an international conference on security, justice and peacebuilding. WHO: Nearly 40 Women PeaceMakers from 33 countries with other human rights defenders and peacebuilders — including the Nobel Women’s Initiative and UN Women. The conference will also feature leading Pakistani human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir. WHAT: Conference on “Breaking Barriers: What it will take to achieve security, justice and peace” WHEN: September 26-28, 2012 WHY: To celebrate the work of notable Women PeaceMakers and to strategize how to overcome continued intolerance, impunity, corruption, misogyny and militarism around the globe. HOW: Panel presentations, workshops and training sessions will engage participants in formulating recommendations under three primary areas: Security (political/security priorities; legal rights and infrastructure protections; gender-sensitive policing; moderating extremism) Justice (global justice mechanisms; effective legal frameworks; combatting corruption) Peace (women’s political leadership; economic alternatives to military interests; influencing media; access and engagement of civil society) To attend the conference, please go to http://peace.sandiego.edu/breaking_barriers CONFERENCE CO-CONVENERS:
