"In the Time of Butterflies" is a historical fiction novel relating the personal accounts of the Mirabal sisters during the time of the Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic. Three of these sisters, known as the “butterflies,” were members of the underground plot to oust the dictator and were assassinated on his orders. The sister who lived chose to share her sisters’ stories of courage, conviction and compassion.
Part of International Education Week 2010, an overriding theme of the evening will be the issue of social justice for all, whether it is achieved through storytelling, dance, activism, education or sustainable farming.
This event is open to the public and to the press but reservations are required by November 5, 2010 to Catherine Kineavy at email@example.com.
