Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Encourages Haiti Earthquake Relief

Message

The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice extends its heartfelt sympathy for the people of Haiti as they struggle to cope with the disastrous effects of the earthquake on January 12. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people.

In October 2009, Dr. Paul Farmer, whose life has been dedicated to providing healthcare and eradicating infectious disease in Haiti, visited the USD campus and gave a public presentation on “Development: Creating Sustainable Justice.” Farmer is co-founder of Partners in Health  (PIH) and is the United Nations Deputy Special Envoy to Haiti.

In an interview today, PIH Executive Director Ophelia Dahl, indicated that their facilities in Haiti had not been damaged and as a result, many of the injured are seeking treatment at PIH. Any donations received will be used to help treat these victims.

If you would like to make a donation to help the people of Haiti, the following is a list of organizations providing relief services:

Partners in Health

The International Committee of the Red Cross

Catholic Relief Services

Doctors Without Borders
