About the Kroc School
Senior Editor and Writer
Emiko Noma, MSc, is senior editor and writer at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (IPJ), where she oversees the production of printed and online publications and contributes to program development.
After serving as a peace writer in the Women PeaceMakers program for peacemakers from Uganda and Serbia, Noma has written or edited more than 40 publications in the genre of creative nonfiction in the program, while providing guidance and support to professional writers in the program as they document stories related to war, conflict, peacebuilding, justice, reconciliation and trauma healing.
For the institute, Noma writes, edits and/or produces the Compass Newsletter, Distinguished Lecture Series booklets, website content, conference reports, field reports, and grant proposals and reports. She has represented the IPJ at local, national and international fora, including conferences at the United Nations, and conferences or field work in the Netherlands, Australia, Cameroon, Czech Republic, Philippines and Uganda. In 2015, Noma traveled to the Philippines and Bosnia-Herzegovina to document the IPJ’s work on "Defying Extremism" in those regions.
Additionally, she has published work in the Journal for Peacebuilding & Development, New Routes: A Journal of Peace Research and Action, and Critical Half (a biannual journal of Women for Women International).
She has her master’s degree in conflict resolution from Portland State University, with emphases in international conflict resolution and nonviolent social change, and completed her master’s thesis on the IPJ’s Women PeaceMakers Program. She has undergraduate degrees in English and religious studies, and is a certified mediator.
