"Forging the Future: Human Rights, Justice and the Law"Cherie Blair—human rights barrister, part-time judge and wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair—gives her perspectives on life, learning and the law. She discusses highlights from her own career and explains the critical role of lawyers in promoting human rights and rule of law to create a more equitable and sustainable future. About the Cherie Blair Foundation for WomenFounded in 2008, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women works to strengthen the capacity of women entrepreneurs in countries where they lack equal opportunities. The foundation focuses support on women in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, where it can add value and where it sees clear potential for women in business to become self-sustaining in the longer term. The foundation relies on local knowledge and resources wherever possible, working in partnership with local organizations based in the countries in which it operates. Kroc School of Peace StudiesThe Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies (KSPS) works for sustainable peace and justice through innovative education, interdisciplinary scholarship, advanced practice and policy engagement. The master’s curriculum in Peace and Justice Studies is interdisciplinary and involves faculty from USD’s other schools as well as utilizing the school’s own core faculty, curriculum, dedicated facility and students. Areas of focus include conflict analysis and resolution, human rights and development. KSPS students also benefit greatly from the school’s two practice-oriented institutes: the Institute for Peace & Justice and the Trans-Border Institute. |
