Biography
Topher McDougalInstructor Topher McDougal joins the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies as a faculty member in peacebuilding and economic development. He has consulted for various organizations including the World Bank, HPCR International, and the IRC, on private sector development, urban economics, and public finance in postwar and developing countries. He is editor of the MIT International Review. Mr. McDougal is a PhD candidate at MIT’s International Development Group, and holds Master’s degrees in International Development (MIT) and Economic Geography (UNM).
McDougal’s research focuses on the microeconomic ways in which firms and industries (1) adapt to, and (2) affect in turn, the nature and intensity of violent conflict. He has conducted field work in Liberia and Sierra Leone and along India’s Red Corridor (where the Maoist insurgency is based). |
