Peacemakers for the 21st Century

Joan B. Kroc understood that this is a time of great danger and great
possibility. A new type of institution would be required to educate the
peacemakers of the 21st century. This quiet humanitarian and philanthropist
had a powerful idea. She wanted to build an institution that would be
engaged fully, “not only talking about peace, but making peace.” Mrs. Kroc
saw in the University of San Diego a place to create a unique school to
advance the work of peace and justice.

The University of San Diego (USD) is nationally recognized, with six faculties
offering over 60 degree programs to more than 7,500 students. USD is known
for its commitment to teaching, the formation of values and the development
of ethical judgment, and the engagement of its students in service to the
vulnerable. As humanity grows increasingly interdependent, USD has
embraced strategic goals to further develop its cultural diversity and global
competence.

USD is an independent university that is strongly rooted in its Catholic
history and tradition. The University is committed to and inspired by Catholic
social teaching to work for a just and peaceful society, to honor the intrinsic
dignity of all humanity and to express solidarity with the poor and
marginalized of the world.
